Women have fought and have been victorious in securing human rights, child labor regulations and safeties, and environmental rights.
Big Oil has taken this opportunity to criminalize protesting by labeling Ruby as that she is not, where her actions never caused harm to any living being. Never did she think her peaceful protesting would lead her into a legal battle for her life and future against a multi-billion dollar corporation with multinational investors. Not only is this monetary difference unfair, it is allowing a misuse of power and setting a political precedent that harms future generations and the integrity of our judicial system.
With a strong legal team and your community support, she is now fighting for her freedom and needs your help!
Ruby took peaceful non-violent means to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline, the largest and most opposed pipeline in U.S. history.
When corporations have legal immunity to do as they please and disregard nature, human life, and sacredness of culture, it is nearly impossible to live a free and healthy life. And when these corporations are tied to politics and there is no recourse for their actions, we no longer hold our constitution let alone the safety of our citizens as a priority.
By allowing this case to go forward without investigating and contesting the charges, we are allowing Big Oil to criminalize dissent and label water protectors and protestors, and everyday citizens as t3rrorists.
Ruby's actions were inspired by a higher purpose, to protect water and future generations
Ruby grew up with the pressures of the realities of of climate change as it was constantly in the mention of news topics and commercials. She was brought up as a Catholic and as an adult, she was making efforts to amend Catholicism's history of mistreatment against all people's. Ruby was inspired by the Lakota led movement at Standing Rock to honor their treaty rights and honor the sanctity of life by protecting water.
As a preschool teacher, Ruby saw the importance of a relationship with nature and how that was actively disappearing due to pollution and corporate disregard. She felt the urgency to act.
